Annual SESAMES awards given to the “best in ID technology”

A “chip sandwich,” an all-in-one payment and metering device for taxi cabs, and specially-designed paper that can include an RFID antenna, were some of the nine innovative SESAMES award winners at CARTES in Paris earlier this month.

One of the big winners was Gemplus. The smart card company walked away with two honors–one for its BioEasy solution and another for its TLS-based secure channel. A handful of other companies, most based in France, were recipients of the highly touted awards.

International Biometric Group (IBG) announced that it has been awarded two research awards by the Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) for their Public Security Technical Program. The research awards stipulate that IBG work within a consortium that also includes other Canadian government entities as well as select experts from academia and the biometrics industry to look at various biometric technologies that can be utilized for national security in the country.

Dublin will see a new integrated smart card ticketing system by early next year, according to The Irish Times.

The the €55 million project will start with a smart card rollout for the Luas and Dublin Bus services, to be joined later by Irish Rail, private bus operators and Bus Éireann.

The 10th Annual Tech Titans and Titan Fast Awards have named Entrust’s IdentityGuard Mobile application a finalist in the Corporate Horizon category. The award is granted by the Texas based technology trade organization, Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC).
