BEDFORD, Mass. – Aware, Inc., a global provider of imaging and biometrics software, today announced it will demonstrate a comprehensive suite of biometrics software tools in their booth (#209) at the Smart Card Alliance’s “Smart Cards in eGovernment” Conference and Exhibition, taking place March 9th through 11th in Washington D.C. The Aware tools are designed to provide system developers with key biometric functionality in compliance with the new FIPS 201 PIV (personal identity verification) standards. PIV standards specify biometric ID cards and their issuance to federal employees and contractors, as mandated by Homeland Security Presidential Directive HSPD-12.
Aware’s biometrics software development kits provide a broad range of functionality required to develop PIV-compliant applications for registration and identity proofing, ID personalization, and access control. These functions include quality scoring, optimization, and compression of biometric facial and fingerprint images as well as biometric file reading, writing, validation, and networking; all in compliance with mandated standards to ensure interoperability and interchangeability of system components.

The Aware tools are designed to assist federal contractors with standards-based design requirements for the data acquired by the enrollment systems, stored on the ID cards, and read by the verification systems.
