Diebold earns HSPD-12 Certification from General Services Administration

Wednesday, January 10, 2007

Diebold has achieved HSPD-12 certification from the GSA, enabling the company to deliver FIPS-201 compliant Homeland Security solutions to federal agencies. Specifically, the certification will allow Diebold to help agencies deploy and apply their ID credentials to both physical and logical access control systems.

NORTH CANTON, Ohio– Diebold, Incorporated, one of the nation’s largest security integrators with expertise in the government, commercial, financial and retail markets, has solidified its homeland security presence. The company recently earned certification from the General Services Administration (GSA) to deliver security integration services that meet the requirements of the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12).

The certification, which comes under the GSA’s Specialty Item Number (SIN) 132-62, qualifies Diebold to provide systems integration services and products that address the HSPD-12 needs of federal agencies. Specifically, the certification permits Diebold to deliver products and services for projects that address the Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 201, set forth by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Established as a national policy for federal departments and agencies, HSPD-12 prompts government entities to prioritize U.S. critical infrastructure and key resources to protect them from terrorist attacks. The directive is a driving force in the government security market. FIPS 201 requires the creation and issuance of a common identification and credential for all federal employees and contractors.

“The government market has been and continues to be a priority for Diebold Global Security,” said Dennis M. Moriarty, senior vice president of Diebold Global Security. “Many agencies already trust Diebold to assist in meeting their security objectives in the government marketplace. This certification now enables us to officially leverage our capabilities to deliver solutions for HSPD-12 initiatives.”

GSA establishes approved products and services for HSPD-12-related applications based on a provider’s compliance with the administration’s requirements. Approved system integrators can provide solutions and services for HSPD-12 system components, including: enrollment services, systems infrastructure, card production services, agency physical access control systems, agency logical access control systems, finalization services and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) services.

“Diebold’s rich history of protecting transactions of value, coupled with our recent acquisition of Actcom Security Solutions, makes us a natural partner to help federal agencies meet the requirements of HSPD-12,” said V. John Stroia, vice president of government and monitoring solutions for Diebold. “We are looking forward to growing this segment of our business.”

Now that federal agencies have complied with the October 2006 deadline to produce a compliant identification card, they move to the next phase in the process – making that card work. Its new certification and industry expertise positions Diebold to take its government customers beyond the integration services and products required for FIPS 201 compliance. Diebold’s access control and identity management experts can help agencies practically deploy and apply the credential to both physical access control systems (PACS) and logical access control systems (LACS).

In addition to its recent certification as an HSPD-12 provider, Diebold holds a GSA Schedule 70 for general-purpose commercial information-technology equipment, software and services; a GSA Schedule 71 III E for miscellaneous furniture such as security filing cabinets, safes, access-control containers and vault doors; and a GSA Schedule 84 for total solutions for law enforcement, security, facilities management, rescue and emergency/disaster response. These schedules enable Diebold to provide turnkey system assessment, design, installation, training and support for government security and IT systems.
