Liska Biometry announces alliance with Brazil's leading ID/smart card company

Wednesday, January 24, 2007

A New Hampshire biometrics company has entered into an alliance with one of Brazil’s leading smart card companies to help it provide smart ID cards, through the company’s suite of ID management software and imaging technology, to thousands of the country’s citizens.

DOVER, NH – Liska Biometry, a leading provider of biometric identification solutions, today announced that it has formed an alliance with and received its first order from Sonsun Industrial e Comercial Tecnológica da Amazônia Ltda., Brazil’s leading ID/Smart Card Company. The relationship with Liska will allow the entire suite of Liska’s proprietary technology, ID Management Software, Imaging technology and biometric (BIN) offering, to be introduced to SonSun’s suite of relationships, consisting of thousands of customers.

SonSun, through its manufacturing prowess in smart card credentialing, has established itself as the leading manufacturer and supplier of identification technology and ID credentials within Brazil. Through a dealer network consisting of over 300 in-country dealers, SonSun has become the most recognized and sought after brand for advanced credentialing applications throughout Brazil.

Edson Mendes, Vice President of SonSun, stated, “We are immensely excited to be able to introduce this robust suite of advanced credentialing technology to our customer base, and we look forward to the opportunity of integrating Liska’s Biometric (BIN™) in to our smartcard portfolio. This should demonstrate, further, our commitment to the secure credentialing marketplace within Brazil.”

Christopher J. LeClerc, president of Liska, said, “Brazil is a huge market for ID and SmartCard technology. Getting Liska into that market with the help of SonSun means we have a well-established dealer network through which to generate business. It would have been futile to try to replicate this web of contacts on our own, and we are confident that our ability to expand rapidly in Brazil will be greatly enhanced thanks to this alliance with SonSun.

“Brazil has the 9th largest economy in the world and the biggest in Latin America, estimated at $1.58 trillion in 2005. In addition, it is a federal republic in which municipalities are also autonomous political entities. For ID purposes, this means there are three layers of government needing servicing as well as a vast economy with thousands of corporations with security and ID needs. We believe that Brazil will be a major market for us in the coming years.”
