Identity management, security providers collaborate to enable physical/logical convergence

Monday, March 26, 2007

Smart card and ID management software developer Intercede has entered into a collaboration with Hirsch Electronics and Magicard to provide a single end-to-end solution for identity management and HSPD 12/FIPS 201 solutions that enable the use of smart cards for physical and logical access.

Lutterworth, United Kingdom – Intercede, a leading developer of powerful smart card and identity management software, Hirsch Electronics, a leading provider of physical security management systems and, Ultra Electronics, the manufacturer of Magicard secure ID card printers, are pleased to announce a major technology partnership. This partnership will enable any organization or Government agency to enhance efficiency, increase security and reduce costs by consolidating multiple identity and security credentials onto a single device which enables employees to securely access both physical and logical resources.

This technology partnership integrates Intercede’s MyID® smart card and identity management system with Hirsch’s Velocity physical access control system (PACS) and Magicard printers. Using MyID as the central enrolment, issuance and management system, any organization or Government agency can immediately start issuing and managing converged identity badges in a single issuance process - How? In a single workflow and in a single pass, MyID pushes the required identity information into the Hirsch Velocity Physical access server while at the same time encoding the relevant identity credentials and printing graphical information onto a smart card using a Magicard printer.

Intercede and HIRSCH will be demonstrating Physical/Logical interoperability on the HIRSCH booth #26049 at ISC West in Las Vegas - March 28 - 30, 2007. ISC West is where end-users of security, systems integrators, dealers, and installers cover all their security needs. www.iscwest.com.

About MyID PIV MyID PIV is a pre-configured card, credential and identity management solution that addresses the challenges faced by agencies deploying FIPS 201 compliant PIV smart cards to their employees and contractors. MyID PIV provides both ‘out-of-the-box’ PIV card issuance and management capabilities along with a highly flexible and configurable integration platform for existing services, applications and processes.

MyID PIV provides cardholder registration and complete PIV card lifecycle management that is integrated with a variety of document, photo and biometric capture devices, card printing and production solutions, PIV II certified smart cards, PKI certificate providers and identity management systems. Each function within the MyID issuance process may use existing product features, or utilize external applications as appropriate.

MyID PIV was the first smart card and identity management system to support FIPS 201 PIV ll certified smart cards and the first card management system (CMS) to be certified for electronic personalization and listed on the GSA’s FIPS 201 Approved Products List (APL).

“MyID is a recognized leader in the smart card and identity management market and we continue to strengthen that position by adding interoperability with leading physical access solution providers and other security technology vendors,” said Richard Parris, Intercede Chairman and CEO. “We are extremely pleased to be working closely with leading physical access vendors such as Hirsch and leading card printer manufacturers such as Magicard to bring innovative and compelling identity solutions to the global market place.”

About Hirsch Velocity Physical Access Control System Hirsch’s award-winning Velocity Security Management System is management software for access control and security operations. Seamless integration of door control, alarm monitoring, credential enrollment, photo badging, video, dynamic graphics, database management and tutorials yields an easy to use and easy to install system suitable for a single door or an enterprise.

Velocity is one of the first systems to utilize FIPS 201 PIV II smart cards in a physical access control system. Velocity Server software, along with the latest shipping controller firmware and universal reader interface can read the CHUID/FASC-N number on a PIV II card presented to either a contactless or contact reader. Access will be granted to personnel that have been enrolled into the Velocity PACS either locally or through the interoperable interface with the Intercede Identity/Card Management System.

Hirsch’s RUU-201 Verification Station can be used to perform a complete identity verification including PIN entry on a ScramblePad, a biometric fingerprint check and PKI certificate check. The RUU 201 can be used with Velocity to enroll a card issued by the Intercede IDMS/CMS, to gain access to a door, to verify identity at a spot check station or to confirm that the person enrolled is the one being given the card at issuance.

“We are excited about the partnership with Intercede and Magicard” said HIRSCH’s Vice President of Marketing, Rob Zivney. “Our end to end solution is cost effective for federal agencies, state & local governments, and corporate enterprises, We believe that FIPS 201has established a standard and the federal government has become a catalyst for smart card identity management solutions that can be deployed globally across many vertical markets”

About Magicard Printers Magicard secure ID card printers from Ultra Electronics are used in a wide variety of portrait ID and access control applications, and incorporate innovative HoloKote® anti-counterfeiting technology, developed and patented by Ultra, which puts a watermark across the printed card surface. For HSPD-12 applications, the Magicard Tango +L integrated ID card printer & laminator provides a complete solution for card printing, encoding, and lamination.

“We are very pleased to be working with Intercede and Hirsch” said Magicard’s Team Leader, Andy Matko. “The integration of Magicard printers & MyID software provides an interoperable and highly secure solution for both federal agencies and integrators, putting in place a crucial part of the overall HSPD-12 project.”
