HID Global’s Edge Solo wins Product Achievement Award at SIA New Product Showcase

Friday, April 6, 2007

HID Global’s Edge Solo, a stand-alone IP-based access control solution, won a Product Achievement Award at the Security Industry Association’s New Product Showcase held recently in Las Vegas as part of ISC West. The product allows users to retain their initial investment value over time, or as security requirements increase, due to its web browser-enabled convertibility from a stand-alone to a host-based system reader.

IRVINE, CA.– HID Global, a leading manufacturer in the access control industry, announced that its Edge Solo received the Product Achievement Award for IP Devices, Products and Software at the Security Industry Association’s (SIA) 2007 New Product Showcase (NPS) held March 27-28, in Las Vegas in conjunction with ISC West. Selected from a field of 17 products in the IP Devices, Products and Software category, Edge Solo was recognized by the industry’s premier marketing and awards program for its innovation in product design.

Edge Solo is HID Global’s new cost-effective, stand-alone, single-door IP-based access control solution. Its innovative product design is unique in the market for a number of reasons. Standing apart from other stand-alone readers on the market, the product allows users to retain their initial investment value over time, or as security requirements increase, with its web browser-enabled convertibility from a stand-alone to a host-based system reader. Edge Solo has a user-friendly, instructional web environment, designed and focus-group tested for use in the “real world”, allowing cardholder information, schedules and card assignment management through its intuitive user interface.

Run through standard CAT 5/6 wiring and able to use PoE or external power supply, Edge simplifies installation while providing a low fixed cost per door. Bringing intelligence to the door, the flexible design includes an integrated iCLASS® reader or allows connection to any Wiegand or most clock and data readers.

“We are honored to be recognized by this experienced board of industry experts,” said Tom Heiser, vice president, Networked Access Solutions, HID Global. “The number of access control entrants in the IP category of this year’s competition validates the market’s shift towards true IP-based access control.”

Edge Solo is part of HID Global’s new Edge platform, a full line of flexible and configurable IP-enabled access control processor and host interface solutions, which also includes EdgeReaderTM (with integrated iCLASS® reader) and EdgePlusTM(allowing connection to any Wiegand or most clock and data readers). Designed to provide complete and full-featured access control infrastructure and contactless smart card capability at “the edge” of the network for stand-alone or OEM software host systems, Edge is a perfect solution for new building installations. Edge products require less wiring, are cost-effective and are ideally suited for today’s IT-centric security environment.

Established in 1977, SIA’s New Product Showcase is the industry’s premier marketing and awards program recognizing innovation in product design. At this year’s event, 19 judges representing a cross-section of the industry spent nearly two full days evaluating contest entries on pricing, innovation, product features and functionality.
