Issuing FIPS 201 cards has started ... slowly but surely

As agencies around the country are preparing for the October 27, 2008 deadline, some agencies have a slightly harder road ahead of them: those agencies not using the General Services Administration’s HSPD-12 Managed Service Office. FCW.com News reported that the GSA has signed up 67 agency customers and has the potential to issue as many as 900,000 cards by next October, according to Adnan Malik, EDS’ program manager. GSA has issued 21 cards and enrolled 70 people in its MSO, according to Malik, all within the GSA headquarters and in the Agriculture Department through three centers in the Washington area. Of all the 67 customers, only GSA and the Agriculture Department have completed all the steps required to begin issuing cards. [end]
