Fingerprint scanners in place for German ePassport program

Dermalog has installed 13,000 ZF1 fingerprint scanners across Germany in time for the start of the national ePassport program on November 1st, 2007. The project was completed in 5 months. In order to ensure international inter-operability and high quality of the fingerprint images, the scanners underwent a certification of the new “TR-PDÜ” quality standard for fingerprint live scanners for biometric ePassports by BSI (Bundesamt für Sicherheit). Two fingerprint images of both left and right index fingers of each passport applicant will be stored in the RFID chip of the electronic passport, besides face and personal data.
