Atlantic Zeiser’s Chipline produces smart cards in high volumes

Tuesday, November 20, 2007 in News

Atlantic Zeiser presented Chipline, its modular solution for high-speed smart card personalization at the recent CARTES 2007 conference. Chipline is equipped with two optional feeding modules and requires minimal manual intervention - cards can be loaded without stopping the machine. The chip programming module supports a throughput of up to 20,000 personalized cards per hour and can handle contact or contactless cards. A flipping module delivers in-line processing of both sides of cards. Additional modules support laser marking and inkjet printing with UV curing.

Atlantic Zeiser, supplier of high-performance personalisation and encoding systems, will show Chipline, its modular solution for flexible high-speed smart card personalisation, at Cartes 2007, held from 13 - 15 November 2007 in Paris. Throughout the three-day show, Atlantic Zeiser demonstrated the system’s capability to accurately and cost-effectively produce smart tickets in high volumes.

Chipline enables global ticket manufacturers, ticket issuers and system integrators to profit from reduced personalisation costs for paper-based smart tickets as well as SIM cards. Typical applications are low-cost smart tickets for public transportation, access tickets, and chip cards that require limited programming times.

The global chip card market is booming and an extensive growth is projected over the next few years, particularly in the area of smart tickets. Ticket manufacturers face increasing pressure to address issues with counterfeit tickets, improve access point transaction time and reduce maintenance issues with access point equipment. Chipline is a proven solution for smart card manufacturers and ticket issuers that is already in use in other international markets.

Oliver Mehler, managing director at Atlantic Zeiser, commented, ‘Chipline is well accepted in the global smart ticket personalisation market and recognised for its ability to cost-efficiently streamline the production of smart tickets. One of our customers has recently ordered his fifth Chipline to handle the increasing demand for smart tickets. Chipline’s modular structure makes it easy to expand production as needed. At Cartes 2007 we were able to demonstrate its’ capabilities to European producers.’

Efficient and secure personalisation Chipline is equipped with two optional feeding modules and requires minimal manual intervention - cards can be loaded without stopping the machine. The chip programming module supports a throughput of up to 20,000 personalised cards per hour and can handle contact or contact-less cards. A flipping module delivers in-line processing of both sides of cards. Additional modules support laser marking and inkjet printing with UV curing. Operator-friendly, a state-of-the-art software development kit (SDK) ensures uncomplicated script generation.

Error detection and accuracy are hallmarks of the Chipline system. Atlantic Zeiser’s top-line camera inspection module crosschecks data for 100 per cent accuracy. Cards with incorrect data, chip programming errors or bad camera reading results are ejected into a special locked bin. A Card Sort module supports dynamic remake of defective cards during production, minimising costs and reducing the risk of mishandling or fallouts. Chipline ensures top-level cryptography in smart card programming, providing an invaluable deterrent against counterfeiting.

‘We’ve responded to customer demands for a flexible and cost-effective method of creating and producing personalised smart cards for secure point of sale distribution,’ stated Dr. Hans Wyssmann, vice president of marketing at Atlantic Zeiser. ‘There is an increasingly serious problem with counterfeiting of magnetic tickets. Chipline puts manufacturers, ticket issuers and system integrators in complete control of their smart card personalisation and production process, from start to final delivery. This results in higher efficiency and quality, as well as shorter production runs.’
