U.S. expands security rule for Canadians entering country on visas

Under US-VISIT, U.S. officials will start taking ten fingerprints from Canadians entering the country on visas instead of just their two index fingers and digital photographs as before. The expanded program starts this month at Washington Dulles International Airport and will carry over to nine other major airports in early 2008. The new rules are supposed to go into effect at all 311 ports of entry, including air, land and sea, by the end of next year. The database of biometrics currently holds approximately 90 million fingerprints.
