SAN DIEGO–ImageWare® Systems, Inc., a leading developer of identity management solutions, today announced that it has been awarded patent number 7,298,873 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a multimodal biometric identification or authentication system.
This foundational patent covers a system and method for enrolling, searching, matching, and managing biometric modalities on a common platform, and is independent to the biometric types or the algorithms managed. The patent, titled “Multimodal Biometric Platform,” is employed throughout ImageWare’s portfolio of biometric identity management solutions and marketed as the IWS™ Biometric Engine™.

These include searching and matching for Verification of an Identity (1:1), Exhaustive Search for Identification (1:N), Watchlist Management (X:N) and Existing Biometric Population Management and Enhancement (N:N).
