New keyless door lock uses Siemens smart card

Locstar Technology Company has issued a keyless door lock that works with a Siemens SLE-4442 smart card (Model LS-8008-IC-BG). Suitable for hotels and offices, the CE-certified product is made of stainless steel. It has a 32-byte password protection system. The static consumption is 5A, while the dynamic consumption is between 200 and 300mA. The models antistatic ability is 15,000V. Products are being exported to the US, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

HID completes NFC key pilot at ASU

HID Global has announced the successful completion of the world’s first university pilot of NFC smart phones carrying digital keys.

First announced in September, the pilot involved a select group of students and staff at Arizona State University using NFC-enabled smart phones equipped with HID’s Secure Identity Object (SIO) Technology. UBC transitions to keyless access

The University of British Columbia has begun the transition to a contactless smart card to access every building and lab on campus.

The iClass UBC card contains an embedded chip which is used to securely open doors when tapped against hotspots located at the building and lab entrances. The card on the hotspot will communicate with campus system software, pull up the students and staff individual profile, and allow them access to the building if they’re authorized to do so.

GAO releases Wiegand-to-Ethernet RFID controller

GAO RFID has released a Wiegand-to-Ethernet RFID controller designed specifically for door access applications.

The network access controller, model 491018, is able to connect to any type of Wiegand reader such as magnetic stripe reader, RFID reader or fingerprint reader. It also offers a master card for adding or deleting access privileges directly from the external reader, thus acting independently without connection to a network or PC.
