ID World 2007 called a success

ID WORLD 2007, the sixth global summit on automatic identification, which was held in Milan from November 26 to 28 has been named a success by its organizers, Wise Media. More than 2,419 individual visitors (up 34 percent over last year) attended the exhibition and 112 exhibitors (up 56 percent over last year) showcased their products and technologies. The ID WORLD International Congress examines the evolving world of RFID, biometrics, smart cards, identity management and identification technologies in general. Next year’s ID WORLD International Congress will take place on November 18th to 20th in Milan at the Milanofiori Congress Center.

The sixth annual summit on automatic identification

Endorsed by the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of Interior and the Presidency of the Italian Council of Ministers, the ID WORLD International Congress is the most comprehensive event on the evolving world of RFID, biometrics, smart cards, identity management and identification technologies in general. It is the only international event that looks at the world of automatic identification as a whole, rather than focusing on a specific technology or vertical market sector. Held in Milan from November 26 to 28, the sixth ID WORLD International Congress boasts an incredibly successful track record. Founded as a round table on the topic of automatic identification in 2002, today the annual event attracts the most important players of the international community.

112 exhibitors, 2419 individual exhibition visitors

With 112 exhibitors (increase of 56%) dedicated to automatic identification, ID WORLD is one of the few global events where visitors can find the full range of advanced automatic ID technologies, including RFID, biometrics, smart cards, AIDC - data capture. With 2419 visitors (increase of 34%), the two-day ID WORLD 2007 Exhibition proved to be an ideal meeting place for vendors looking to establish high level business contacts and end users and system integrators looking for the right auto ID technologies and applications.

Highlights of the conference

502 high-caliber conference attendees (up 2 percent over last year) participated in ID WORLD, which featured, in all, sixteen conferences. The plenary sessions of ID WORLD 2007 were inaugurated by a panel of CEOs that comprised contributions from four highly regarded executives of the ID Revolution community: Richard Bravman (Intelleflex - Former Symbol), James W. Ziglar (Cross Match Technologies), Remy de Tonnac (Inside Contactless) and Roberto Tunioli (Datalogic). The breadth of applications of state-of-the-art identification technologies were illustrated by Julie England (VP & General Manager, Texas Instruments Rfid Systems), Philip Gerskovich (SVP, Strategy & Corporate Development, Zebra), Dr. Mohamed Lazzouni (CTO, L-1 Identity Solutions) and Dr. Frank Paul (HD Unit “Large-scale IT systems” - DG JFS, Euro pean Commission).

Minister Nicolais meets the government of the UAE

The ID Community was honored by the visit of Prof. Luigi Nicolais, the Italian Minister for Reforms and Innovation in the Public Administration, in the ID WORLD International Congress. Minister Nicolais spoke during the Citizen ID Forum on November 28 and presented the projects that best illustrate the state-of-the-art infrastructure being deployed in the public administration in Italy in order to better serve its citizens, including the electronic national ID card and the Citizen Card. “We just introduced new technical rules that specify the functionality of the electronic National ID card: not only will it be used as an ID document but also as a credential that allows citizens to access the services provided by the public administration,” the Minister said. “Furthermore, the price of the Electronic Identity Card for the citizen has been reduced to 10 euro.”

Minister Nicolais symbolically handed over the Citizen ID Forum to the government of the United Arab Emirates, represented by H.E. Darwish A. Al-Zarouni, Director General of the Emirates Identity Authority, and Brig. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, General Director Central Operations of Abu Dhabi Police, United Arab Emirates. The next edition of the Citizen ID Forum will be organized by Wise Media on February 25-26 in Abu Dhabi with the patronage of the Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheik Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan and with the endorsement of the European Commission represented at the ceremony of November 28 by Cecilia Joanna Verkleij, Head of Sector at the European Commission’s Directorate-General Justice, Freedom and Security.

Key Source International (KSI) has announced the release of a new line of computer keyboards that offer a number of security input options.

Among the various embedded options for securely authenticating one’s identity in the keyboard, called the KSI-1700, are biometrics, RFID, HID and contactless smart cards as well as technology called SonarLocID, which automatically locks a user’s workstation when they walk away.
