Privaris unveils new version of ID token with Bluetooth

Charlottesville, Va.-based Privaris introduced a new biometric token that enables logical and physical access with one device.

The plusID 75 uses Bluetooth technology to secure access to personal computers. A user presses a button on the token, slides their finger over the swipe fingerprint scanner, and are then able to login to their PC. The token uses Bluetooth with an extra layer of encryption to transmit the login data.

The same token can be used for physical access as well, it has four buttons so it can be used to access different computers or physical areas. A user would hit another button on the device, slide their finger and the credential would be transmitted to the door reader. The data is transmitted using the 13.56-megahertz contactless smart card frequency, or via the 125-kilohertz contactless proximity card frequency. [end]

Sony unveils NFC-enabled Xperia S

Sony has revealed its new NFC-enabled Xperia S smart phone at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, according to ITProPortal.

The inaugural handset in Sony’s new line of NXT smart phones (as in “NeXT” generation), the Xperia S features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 12MP camera, HDMI connection, 32GB of internal flash storage space and a 4.3-inch 720 x 1280 pixel display in addition to NFC.
