HJP Consulting testing e-passport systems
HJP Consulting and Software Quality Lab (s-lab) of the University of Paderborn, both based in Germany, have teamed up to create a reference architecture model for testing electronic passports.
The goal of the project is to create testing systems that ensure that the systems around the e-passports work properly. For example, if a passport is reported stolen how are border checkpoints throughout the world notified? Will they be notified in a timely manner?
“While the passports themselves have been sufficiently tested, testing the multi-level IT systems still represents a major challenge for passport issuers,” explained Markus Hartmann, CEO of HJP Consulting. “This is primarily because distributed systems are employed which need to work hand-in-hand with systems in other countries.”
