Florida hospital institutes smart card for patients
A Florida doctor has instituted a smart card for patients at his hospital to increase efficiency of the nursing staff and provide better care. Dr. David Soria, director of the ER at Wellington Regional Medical Center, has made smart cards available to all patients. The card reveals past visits, ailments, allergy information, and prescriptions and can be routinely updated with new information. The cards are free and don’t have a name on them, and they are secure because the magnetic stripe will work only at the Wellington hospital. The Smart Card will also be valuable when a person is incapacitated and emergency workers can swipe the card even if the patient can’t communicate. The card is available at doctor’s offices and online.
