France pushing biometric visas

As France gets ready to take over the European Union presidency, immigration reform is at priority, according to a report in the Financial Times.

Nicolas Sarkozy, French president, is proposing a immigration pact that calls for quick deployment of biometric visas throughout the EU. The new travel documents would tie the identity of the visa holder to the document.

If members states approve the pact immigrants would have to sign a contract that would require they learn the language of the country they are entering along with other measures. France’s EU presidency starts in July.
