Precise Biometrics to deliver Match-on-Card project for Middle East government

Friday, May 30, 2008

Precise Biometrics has received an order for hardware worth 2.3 million Swedish Krona for a Match-on-Card project. The order is a follow-up from an existing customer in the Middle East and part of a larger order made up of hardware and Precise Match-on-Card licenses.

The order consists of Precise 200 MC, a combined fingerprint and smart card reader that will be used in a government ID card project together with the Precise Match-on-Card technology. Match-on-Card is the concept of both storing and matching fingerprints in the secure environment of a smart card.

The government is an existing customer of Precise Biometrics since 2004, when the company delivered the first order of combined fingerprint and smart card readers at a value of 2.8 million Swedish Krona.

The fingerprint readers from Precise Biometrics will be delivered during the second and third quarter of this year. Precise Biometrics previously has supplied Match-on-Card-based ID card programs to Bahrain and Qatar. [end]

Precise Biometrics has entered a partnership agreement with smart-card technology developer Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) to bring Precise’s Match-on-Card technology to G&D’s smart cards.

The partnership will enable G&D’s clients to provide smart cards with encrypted data on the user’s fingerprint so that when a card is swiped and a fingerprint is scanned for identification purposes, the match occurs between the data stored on the card and the fingerprint swiped rather than routing data to and from a database.
