ID Theft concerns surround UK ID cards

Members of Parliament in Britain have begun showing apprehension towards the use of biometric identity cards, according to an article in the UK Daly Mail. Many worry about the added dangers of identity theft with the new cards, as there is no easy way to alter the fingerprints and iris patterns after someone has been enrolled.

The ID cards are to be implemented on a voluntary basis for some this year, however, a vote on making these cards mandatory is expected following the upcoming election. No contingency is in place as of yet for stolen biometric data as a result of the use of the new biometric ID cards.
