China smart card sales down slightly, domestic suppliers control bulk of market

Tuesday, June 17, 2008 in News

A study by Chinese research and consulting firm, CCID, suggests that smart card sales in China are down slightly compared to last year. But it is another detail in the report’s summary that is equally interesting. It shows the market share of smart card sales in the country by vendor as follows:

  • Gemalto - 20.3%
  • Eastcom Peace - 15.5%
  • Da Tang - 13.7%
  • Watchdata - 10.5%
  • G&D - 8.6%

More than 70% of the country’s smart cards are provided by domestic suppliers as opposed to the larger European-founded suppliers that dominate the global markets. Read more of the report here. [end]
