Precise Biometrics, a developer of fingerprint recognition technology, has joined GlobalPlatform in an effort to contribute to the group’s work on biometrics with smart cards. Precise and the international smart card specification group will work on match-on-card technology which deals with the concept of both matching and storing fingerprint data on a smart card for authentication.

Additionally, Precise hopes to help GlobalPlatform’s Government Task Force in developing industry standards for biometrics and applications for the match-on-card concept. Both Precise and GlobalPlatform are expecting their partnership will help form a neutral industry infrastructure that will drive development and usage of both biometrics and smart cards alike.
