Secure announces new technology for smart cards

Thursday, September 25, 2008 in News

Secure Services Corporation, a developer of security technology, has developed a new smart card, called the SHAPE Card, which operates on the MULTOS operating system and uses biometric match-on-card algorithms developed by Precise Biometrics.

The SHAPE Card, which stores a user’s biometric data on the card rather than connecting to a database, is primarily aimed at the health care industry for computer access security but other markets are also being considered for future developments with the product.

The MULTOS operating system was chosen by Secure because they see it as the most secure and flexible operating system in wide spread use. Additionally, the match-on-card technology was used primarily for its ability to store one’s biometric information on the card which is believed to reduce security risks such as errors and fraud. The SHAPE Card is the new component to the SHAPE suite offered by Secure that includes software such as the personal health record software. [end]
