SCM, XIRING partner in German health care market

XIRING, a European provider of security systems for remote transactions, and SCM Microsystems announced their collaboration to develop mobile eHealth smart card terminals for the new generation German health care system.

Starting in late 2008, new electronic health insurance cards will be distributed to 82 million German citizens, creating a market for compatible mobile eHealth terminals that facilitate at-home patient consultation and treatment by Germany’s 310,000 healthcare professionals and 130,000 physiotherapists. With this agreement, the two companies aim provide products for that market.

XIRING provides health care terminals to the French market, and SCM has developed several prototype and market-ready desktop eHealth terminals for gematik, the German healthcare organization overseeing the country’s eHealth scheme [end] 

Interactive Health Technologies, an Austin, Texas-based provider of digital fitness systems, has added NFC technology from Sony to its Spirit System school fitness program.

Now available to schools across America, Spirit System enables schools to track students’ physical activity and fitness progress through NFC-enabled Spirit Heart Rate Monitor devices equipped with Sony NFC Dynamic Tag (FeliCa Plug) technology. To log their fitness information, students simply tap the heart monitor against an NFC reader.

German bank, Sparkasse will pilot contactless payments for its bank credit card users, reports Venture Village.

Locations in Hannover, Braunschweig and Wolfsburg will be some of the first for the trial, which begins in April. More than 1.3 million customers will receive the new bank cards complete with contactless functionality.
