NXP to unveil new Mifare Plus chips at CARTES
NXP Semiconductors, the semiconductor company founded by Philips, will launch its microcontroller smart card IC Mifare Plus at CARTES 2008, November 4-6 in Paris. Mifare Plus is the latest addition to NXP’s Mifare family of chips.
NXP plans to demonstrate some of the security available to customers using Mifare Plus, including 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard and the easy migration path from existing Mifare Classic implementations.
The chip complements NXP’s range of contactless microcontroller ICs, such as Mifare DESFire and SmartMX, which are already used in automatic fare collection, access management, eGovernment and banking markets.
Researchers have cracked the encryption used in NXP’s Mifare Classic line of chips and have posted the results online. These microprocessors are used in both Boston and London’s public transportation system, among others. ![[end]](/resources/bullet/secureidnews-4.gif)
