HID Global announced plans to support iCLASS digital keys and mobile secure identity on NFC-enabled BlackBerry smart phones.

The new BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 and BlackBerry Curve 9350/9360 smart phones activated with iCLASS digital credentials will be compatible with the installed base of iCLASS readers that are used for applications ranging from physical access systems in buildings, to student IDs, to applications that track time and attendance.

Department of Homeland Security Sec. Janet Napolitano and Transportation Security Administration Administrator John S. Pistole announced the expansion of TSA PreCheck, a passenger pre-screening initiative, to additional airports across the country following the program’s success at seven pilot locations.

GuardRFID announced that it will be demonstrating its Argus Active RFID system, with its “seek and follow” capability, which enables automatic switching within a video surveillance system to follow a tagged person or item moving throughout its area of coverage.

Ingenico announced the launch of a new conactless card payment system for public transportation in Eskisehir, Turkey.

Based on MasterCard’s M/Chip Advance technology, the new system will allow riders on Eskisehir’s buses and tramways to pay for fares with the tap of a contactless “Esparacard” card.

This summer a group of students at Arizona State University used mobile phones to enter residence hall and even their dorm rooms. Blackberry, Android and iPhone handsets were outfitted with near field communication (NFC) for physical access. HID Global credentials were provisioned to the smart phones for communication from handset to door.
