Lumidigm, Innometriks reader passes TSA test

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Lumidigm and Innometriks, developers of biometric technologies, have had their biometric and smart card reader pass the Transportation Security Administration’s evaluation for trial use in the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program.

The product uses Innometriks’ Rhino, which is a smart card based access control system designed for rugged conditions, and incorporates multispectral imaging fingerprint technology from Lumidigm, which enables for operation in rough weather and with poor samples while also preventing fraud. Lumidigm’s technology reads beyond the surface of the fingerprint to make sure an actual finger is being presented to the scanner.

With both the Lumidigm sensors and the Rhino hardware are designed to operate in harsh weather, the two companies expect their product to be a perfect fit for the TWIC program as it requires many access control points located outdoors.

The TWIC program is expected to be begin in early 2009 and will be collecting data from over 20 locations. Lumidigm and Innometriks’ Rhino product will be getting demonstrated at the TOC Americas conference and exposition in Long Beach, Calif. through November 20th. [end]

Lumidigm has announced that it has entered a partnership with identity solutions distributor IdentyTech Solutions for distribution in Israel.

The new agreement will see IdentyTech’s terminals and other identity solutions integrated with Lumidigm’s multispectral fingerprint scanners, which use both surface and subsurface fingerprint data for a more accurate print match in both good and poor environments. In addition to the agreement expanding Lumidigm’s reach, IdentyTech is also involved in field testing Lumidigm’s products bringing them new clients as well as new applications for use of the technology such as civil ID and access control applications.
