Gemalto to supply Bahrain with additional e-ID cards

Wednesday, January 21, 2009 in News

Gemalto, a developer of security technologies, has announced they will deliver one million additional electronic ID cards for use by citizens of Bahrain. The new shipment is in addition to the original cards supplied by Gemalto when the program began in September 2007. As well as the cards themselves, they will also be offering Bahrain services such as training on use of the cards and consultancy on infrastructures and applications for use with the cards.

The cards use match-on-card technology and have contact and contactless technologies. While the cards now serve as the national ID cards and travel documents for citizens and foreign residents, some possible plans for future uses include storing medical information on the cards as well as e-gate access for airports and e–driver’s licenses. [end]
