Austrian campus installs access control based on LEGIC technology

Thursday, February 12, 2009

A secure access control system based on LEGIC Identsystems technology has been installed at the new training and knowledge center at the Scientific Research Institute at the Chamber of Commerce in Dornbirn, Austria.

Installed by LEGIC partner Gantner Technologies, Österreich, Austria, the new system can handle a wide range of authorization models. It also can connect to a personnel time management recording system.

The Building Overview module guarantees full monitoring of the building’s exterior. If doors are left open for too long outside opening hours, an alarm is triggered. The system is also connected to fire alarms. New lock technology has enabled evacuation and fire protection doors to be integrated within the access control system. These doors were previously left open, which provided a security risk. [end]

HID Global has announced the successful completion of the world’s first university pilot of NFC smart phones carrying digital keys.

First announced in September, the pilot involved a select group of students and staff at Arizona State University using NFC-enabled smart phones equipped with HID’s Secure Identity Object (SIO) Technology. Participants could gain access to their residence halls and other secure access areas by tapping their handset against a reader embedded in the door and entering a PIN, rather than use their plastic campus card.
