Belgium foreign nationals getting eIDs

Zetes Industries, a provider of automatic identification of goods and people, has been contracted with the production of the electronic identity card for Belgians abroad. This card will be issued on request to Belgian nationals domiciled outside Belgium who register with the local Belgian embassy or consulate.

The distribution of the cards, which has started with a pilot phase in Lille, France will be extended to all European countries during the third and fourth quarters of this year. By the end of 2010, all Belgian embassies and consulates will be ready to issue the eID. [end] 

Gemalto has announced that ING Belgium has agreed to deploy Gemalto’s Ezio end-to-end authentication product in its eBanking platform.

The Ezio service utilizes its Ezio Classic reader and ING customers’ current smart banking cards to generate a one-time password that grants secure access to their bank account and online transaction signing. The system is fully compliant with Belgian regulations regarding online security and is designed to encourage customers to enroll in online banking.

Biometrics enable expedited border screening

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Global Entry program is expanding enabling enrolled U.S. citizens to enjoy expedited screening when returning from travel abroad to a number of domestic airports. The program also makes them eligible to participate in similar programs at foreign airports.

The Emirates Identity Authority announced the test launch of the registration e-form on its web site for the national ID card. Applicants will be able to avoid lines at registration centers by using the online service to fill ID forms, pay fees and get an appointment for biometric screening, according to TechZone360.com
