Fujitsu launches secure print product

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Fujitsu announced the launch of Secure Print Solution as part of an update to its SafetyValue security lineup released last year. The new solution is available in Japan.

Secure Print Solution uses smart card technology to prevent paper-based information leaks and reduce printing costs. The solution is made up of Fujitsu’s Interstage Print Manager, the Advanced Engineering Limited’s EcoGate Print for Print Manager software, and a smart card reader.

With Secure Print Solution, printing documents can only be completed when users scan a personalized smart card over a card reader installed in the printer. This step prevents paper-based information leaks that result when printed documents are forgotten and left behind at the printer.

Moreover, by employing a print server to centrally manage the printing environment and data information, this solution can be deployed using existing printers. The addition of a smart card reader will then complete the setting up of an environmentally-friendly printing system at low-cost. At the same time, by generating reports on printing jobs, the solution will also enable the visualization of paper usage within the office, thereby contributing to effective reduction of cost.

If the selected printer is unavailable due to a malfunction or heavy usage, users can complete the printing job simply by switching to a different printer for authentication, without needing to repeat the printing command. [end]
