Lituanian issued 500K e-passport in September

Polish Security Printing Works (PWPW) has delivered five types of biometric documents and the extended access control system to Lithuania. In September the company issued more than half a million units. PWPW S.A., in consortium with the Lithuanian company Garsu Pasaulis, has been delivering biometric passport booklets to the Republic of Lithuania since the beginning of 2008.

In June PWPW implemented the Extended Access Control mechanism in the Personalization System for Biometric Passports of the Republic of Lithuania, so the country could start issuing passports with fingerprints. Apart from passport booklets, PWPW has been delivering four other types of documents with the biometric feature: service passports, refugee travel documents, travel documents for stateless persons and aliens’ passports.

PWPW also manufactured security paper for passport booklets for Slovakia, Turkey, and seaman’s books for the Republic of Lithuania.

The company also produces booklets for Polish biometric passports with a chip embedded in the cover sheet, containing the citizen’s face and fingerprint biometric data. PWPW has also delivered a system for the personalization of biometric passports with the second biometric feature and the facilities required for taking fingerprints in offices. [end]

Jakarta airport opens biometric immigration gate

In an effort to streamline passenger security, Jakarta, Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport has opened the country’s first biometric immigration gate.

Fingerprint biometric identification provider BIO-key International, Inc. and Oakwell Engineering Limited partnered to create the new gate, designed for use by passengers with electronic passports. Passengers submit their e-passports and authenticate with a fingerprint.
