GlobalPlatform announces board

GlobalPlatform, the international specification body for smart card infrastructure, has announced its Board of Directors for fiscal year 2009-2010, following annual elections for five of the eleven Board seats. Individual members to serve as Board Officers for a one-year term have also been confirmed.

Sébastien Tormos, director of marketing at Datacard Group, retains his position as chairman of the organization for a second year. Marc Kekicheff, senior business leader at Visa Inc., who has been an active participant at GlobalPlatform since its inception in 1999, will support Tormos as GlobalPlatform’s vice chair for his fifth consecutive term. For a third year Yves Moulart, director of development and innovation within STMicroelectronics’ Smart Card Products, Secure Software Solutions Division, will serve as GlobalPlatform’s Secretary/Treasurer.


Five Board seats were open for election. Both Tormos and Moulart were re-elected to serve a two year term alongside the following individuals:

  • Christoph Siegelin, director of marketing and business development for the Financial Services and Retail Division at Gemalto
  • Christian Delporte, vice president and head of chip engineering and innovative platforms at MasterCard
  • Sebastian Hans, senior standardization manager at Sun Microsystem

GlobalPlatform’s Strategic Director, Shoji Taniguchi, chief marketing specialist at Toshiba Corporation, was also re-appointed by the board. He will maintain his responsibility for positioning GlobalPlatform in key Japanese and Asian government initiatives for the third consecutive year. [end] 

Marc Kekicheff, Visa’s senior business leader of chip innovation, has been re-elected chairman of GlobalPlatform, the group that standardizes the management of secure chip technology. Uwe Wittig, group vice president, payment division for Giesecke & Devrient, will remain the organization’s vice chair. In addition, Yves Moulart, director of development and innovation for STMicroelectronics, will remain secretary/treasurer.

GlobalPlatform and SIMalliance have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to improve application security on mobile devices.

Through the formal partnership, the associations say they will work together to develop an end-to-end solution that will enable a mobile device application to communicate with an application loaded in a secure element.

GlobalPlatform announced that it will hold a two-day card specification training session March 1-2 at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.

Directly preceding CARTES North America 2012 (March 5-7, Las Vegas), the training session will aim to educate CARTES delegates and other participants on the importance of GlobalPlatform Specifications, their capabilities and functionality.

Up now on the GlobalPlatform Web site, the first guide covers Trusted Execution Environments (TEE), or the hardware and software on a mobile device that ensures that sensitive data is stored, processed and protected.

FIME, an independent consulting and market integration testing service, has been selected by

digital security provider Gemalto to validate its UICC NFC 2.0 product. The goal is to achieve qualification status by GlobalPlatform, which launched its compliance program earlier this year.
