Payments group elects steering committee

The Payments Processing Information Sharing Council, a forum for sharing information about fraud, threats, vulnerabilities and risk mitigation practices in the payments industry, has elected its steering committee for the 2010-2011 term.

Made up of seven payment industry leaders, the committee will set the agenda of the organization and determine the council’s upcoming initiatives. Appointments include Bob Carr, chairman and chief executive officer of Heartland Payment Systems, as committee chair. Carr was instrumental in the formation of the PPISC.


Rick Van Luvender, director of InfoSec Incident Response at First Data, was named vice chair. Members at-large include: Terry Dooley, senior vice president and chief information officer at ITS Inc.; Chris Kenyon, chief information officer and executive vice president of systems and technology at Elavon Global Acquiring Solutions; John Kirkpatrick, senior vice president and chief information officer at Trans First Holdings, Inc.; John Latimer, group executive and enterprise risk executive at TSYS; and Tom Tesmer, chief technology officer and chief technology officer at Pipeline Data Inc. [end] 

Northern Michigan University has selected Wells Fargo as the new financial services provider for the Wildcat Express Card, the university’s official campus ID card.

Beginning this fall, NMU students and faculty will be able to link their Wildcat Express Cards to their Wells Fargo checking and savings account for ATM and PIN debit card access. NMU’s University Center will also be home to a new Wells Fargo banking location and ATM.

Bank of America will be testing NFC payments enabled through microSD cards, a spokesperson for the bank tells NFCNews.com. The program will begin in September and run through the end of the year in New York.

MarketsandMarkets has released a new report predicting that the value of mobile payment transactions in the US will reach $56 billion in 2015.

According to the report, “Mobile Payment - Advanced Technologies (NFC), Strategies And Future Of Remote & Proximity Payment In US,” the market for NFC mobile payment in the US is currently in its infancy, with an adoption rate of only 1.7%.
