Speed Identity tapped for Swedish ID cards

Speed Identity AB, a Swedish provider of biometric capture systems, has been chosen to provide photo and signature capture devices called Speed Capture Light to Gemalto for the production of biometric ID cards for Swedish citizens, according to a Source Security article.

The program is an attempt to provide secure ID cards to the country’s residents after the post office stopped producing them. Equipment from Speed Identity has also been used in several other national ID programs including Europe’s E-passports, Visa documents and ID cards.

Precise Biometrics has announced it has selected GD Burti for exclusive distribution of the company’s fingerprint and smart card readers in Brazil.

The move to get heavy distribution in Brazil became increasingly important for Precise as the country is completing its roll-out of the Brazilian National ID project which provides all of Brazil’s citizens with a smart ID card that has an embedded chip with each citizen’s fingerprint data for authenticating their identity where necessary.

In an effort to streamline passenger security, Jakarta, Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport has opened the country’s first biometric immigration gate.

Fingerprint biometric identification provider BIO-key International, Inc. and Oakwell Engineering Limited partnered to create the new gate, designed for use by passengers with electronic passports. Passengers submit their e-passports and authenticate with a fingerprint.
