U.S. Air Force PKI-enabling mobile devices

The U.S. Air Force has made some changes to the security policies regarding Blackberry devices, according to a Wired report. The agency is locking the devices down and requiring that the Defense Department Common Access Card be used for authentication.

The Air Force also disable most of the Bluetooth functions with the Blackberry and Window Mobile devices, except for the smart card reader that uses the transmission protocol to communicate with the device. Common Access Cards will be used with the devices to sign and secure emails.

Software on the handhelds will automatically be updated. If a user refuses the device will be locked down.
