Jim Reno, CTO at Arcot, talks about the company’s technology and where he sees authentication heading at the RSA Conference in San Francisco.
“We are able to create a hardware smart card but all implemented in software,” Reno says. “It’s strong two-factor security but it’s got the convenience, cost and usability of passwords.”
The company is providing basic authentication products and advances authentication, such as analyzing where a user logs in from and whether there’s a risk associated with that login.
But adding two-factor authentication to mobile devices is a strong focus for the company. “Gives us the equivalent of a hardware one-time password token on a mobile phone,” Reno says. “You’re using a devices that you already carry without having to carry any other devices.”
