Jim Reno, CTO at Arcot, talks about the company’s technology and where he sees authentication heading at the RSA Conference in San Francisco.

“We are able to create a hardware smart card but all implemented in software,” Reno says. “It’s strong two-factor security but it’s got the convenience, cost and usability of passwords.”

The company is providing basic authentication products and advances authentication, such as analyzing where a user logs in from and whether there’s a risk associated with that login.

But adding two-factor authentication to mobile devices is a strong focus for the company. “Gives us the equivalent of a hardware one-time password token on a mobile phone,” Reno says. “You’re using a devices that you already carry without having to carry any other devices.”

RSA Security executives spelled out the company’s product strategy for 2012, announcing that it would focus on mobile, anti-threat and cloud security.

As reported in Network World, RSA wants to develop tools that can help businesses improve data protection on mobile devices by separating personal and corporate data and improving mobile device authentication. RSA’s strategy includes adding more factor options to multi-factor authentication and embedding SecurID technology in mobile phones.
