Smart Card Alliance rolling out international training, certification at CARTES 2010

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

The Smart Card Alliance, as part of its Leadership, Education and Advancement Program (LEAP), announced that its first international Certified Smart Card Industry Professional (CSCIP) preparation course and exam will be held at the CARTES & IDentification event in Paris.

The certification training course and exam will take place at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition center on Dec. 6 and Dec. 9, respectively.

CSCIP is the smart card industry’s standardized certification program that recognizes professionals who have advanced through levels of smart card industry knowledge and experience, and have passed a multi-part exam developed by smart card industry experts. For CARTES, the CSCIP training documentation has been updated with content on international technology standards and global implementations to support the expansion of this international exam.

The individuals who complete the classroom training and pass each section of the exam will receive a CSCIP designation. Currently there are more than 100 international LEAP members and 56 certified CSCIPs.

“After two years of success offering the CSCIP exam in North America, we received significant demand for training and certifications from individuals around the world,” said Randy Vanderhoof, the alliance’s executive director. “With smart cards being a widely adopted global technology, CSCIP is a strong credential for any individuals or organizations to have to set themselves apart as industry experts and compete on a global scale.”

The Smart Card Alliance has developed nine training modules covering the body of knowledge for applicants to use to prepare for the CSCIP certification exam. The training modules available now for CSCIP international applicants to download from the Smart Card Alliance Web site are:

  1. Smart Card Fundamentals
  2. Security
  3. Smart Card Application and Data Management
  4. Smart Card Usage Models – Identity and Security
  5. Smart Card Usage Models – Payments and Financial Transactions
  6. Smart Card Usage Models – Mobile, NFC and Pay TV
  7. Other Identity Topics (RF-enabled contactless smart cards vs. RFID, for example)
  8. Smart Card Technology and Application Glossary
  9. Bibliography of Additional Resources
