GoldKey releases minidriver with two-factor authentication

Monday, August 8, 2011

MIssouri-based GoldKey Security Corp. has released a smart card minidriver that supports Microsoft Crypto APIs and can be integrated with PKI applications.

The minidriver negates the need for additional software or middleware, enabling users to deploy two-factor authentication for Microsoft Active Directory. The authentication factors combine a physical token with a memorized PIN and can be used locally or via remote login.

In addition, the smart card token does not require an external smart card reader to function, nor does the token need an internal battery. The tokens store up to 24 certificates with private keys and support many PKI applications such as main signing, EFS, BitLocker and SSL/TLS authentication. Key types supported include RSA-1024 and RSA-2048, as well as ECC P256 and ECC P384 on newer versions of Windows.

The token supports 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP; Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2008 RS; Windows Vista and Windows 7. [end]

GoldKey’s security tokens with Elliptic Curve Cryptography capabilities can be used with the VPN client’s encryption of IP traffic based on the Suite B set of encryption algorithms designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) for Department of Defense communications.
