The OASIS international open standards consortium has created a new committee tasked with the development of standardized protocols for online service providers to enable elevated trust levels in the electronic identity credential authentication process. These protocols will extend interoperability among online service providers and simplify e-transactions for end-users.
This OASIS Electronic Identity Credential Trust Elevation Methods Technical Committee will develop its protocol to be neutral in terms of vendors and products, and it will allow for interoperability among multiple identity providers, frameworks and federations.
OASIS created this committee in response to requests from governments asking for national and global identity infrastructures that bridge the gap between governments and businesses on the basis of how trust approaches are conducted in hopes that a common infrastructure can be developed.
The new committee currently has 40 members from around the world and is co-chaired by Abbie Barbir of Bank of America and Don Thibeau of Open Identity Exchange. Other members on the committee represent financial services companies, health care organizations, government agencies, academia, software providers and other groups.
