Friday, October 21, 2011

XIRING, a provider of security products for electronic transactions, introduced an ergonomic handheld e-ID control terminal at the Milipol trade show.

This light, portable control terminal has the ability to read both contact and contactless smart cards, magnetic stripes and fingerprints. Its dual security methodology allows users to check documents with electronic security methods to ensure their authenticity. It also captures fingerprints to tie users to their IDs.

The terminal can read documents such as national e-ID cards, biometric passports and resident cards. Supported documents will be added to the terminal’s capabilities as necessary, including the French smart card driver’s license, which is scheduled for release on January 1, 2013. Users can also configure the embedded software to add other functionalities in order to meet additional needs. [end]
