Smart Card Alliance releases 2011 E-Yearbook

To commemorate the smart card industry’s achievements throughout 2011, the Smart Card Alliance has decided to release its first-ever E-Yearbook.

The nearly 70-page e-book discusses the year’s leadership and advancement in the smart card industry and highlights industry achievements.


These include:

  • The acceleration of EMV payments in North America
  • The implementation of open back card fare payment at six major U.S. transit centers
  • The development of mobile payments schemes
  • Government-led advances in finding secure solutions for trusted eCommerce under NSTIC
  • Development in the health care industry’s use of smart cards for secure electronic health record storage and access

The Smart Card Alliance is offering a certification program dedicated to smart card-based payments – the Certified Smart Card Industry Professional/Payments (CSCIP/P) credential.

Designed for Industry professionals interested in supporting the U.S. move to EMV and NFC contactless mobile technologies, CSCIP/P certification covers EMV migration, mobile and NFC contactless payments, secure remote transactions and smart card use in both card-based and account-based transit payment systems.

Resolute Health, based in New Braunfels, Texas, has launched a health security smart card to facilitate patient registration.

Resolute contracted with LifeMed ID to implement the SecureReg Patient Identity Management System. With the Resolute Health BeneFIT smart card, a patient can check into either the Resolute Health Center for Wellbeing or the Resolute Health Family Urgent Care Center and be accurately identified.
