In Europe, the Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS) and EPASOrg has developed a new global standard to help accommodate changes in new payment technologies, according to SupermarketNews.com
“The ‘ARTS-EPAS Retailer Payment Protocol’ standard was developed to help exchange data between payment terminals and support emerging payment forms such as mobile payments, EMV chips, contactless cards and prepaid devices.”
Developed by a team of experts from Europe, Canada and the United States, the protocol will be based on state-of-the-art technologies to ensure interoperability between different sale environments.
The specifications for the standard will be available for free beginning in the first quarter of 2012.
