It has been announced that this year’s Asian SESAMES Awards will be held on March 29th – the first day of CARTES in Asia, a major international trade fair for the smart cards industry at the AsiaWord-Expo in Hong Kong.
The SESAMES aim to reward the most innovative technological application developed for the Asian Pacific market in the field of smart cards, digital security, ID, NFC, secure transactions and contactless.
The competition is open to all companies operating in the region. The jury is composed of experts from the global smart cards industry, such as Frank Xu, chairman of the Smart Card Forum of China and Greg Pote, chairman of the Asia Pacific Smart Card Association.
The past year has seen some some major developments in the region, including China Unicom’s SIMPass launch in Beijing, enabling contactless mobile payment on thousands of buses and taxis, as well as in businesses such as car parks, supermarkets, restaurants, pharmacies, cinemas and public pay phones. Other advancements include anti-counterfeit RFID tagging, NFC-enabled mobile payments and NFC communication between home appliances.
Last year’s winning product was Watchdata’s DBS Live Fresh 3-in-1 credit card that combined banking, transport and retail payments on a single chip dual interface smart card.
