category: Biometrics, Contactless, Corporate, Digital ID, Government
Analysts: Biometrics $20 billion industry by 2024
Market research firm Tractica predicts that the global biometrics market will increase from $2.0 billion in 2015 to $14.9 billion by 2024, with a compound annual growth rate of 25.3%.
Biometrics use cases will be split into two threads: consumer-facing use cases are typically high-volume at a low price, while enterprise-facing use cases — including government and defense — are typically much smaller volumes but utilize more expensive devices.
The firm anticipates that key industries in the biometrics market over the next decade are likely to be finance, consumer devices, health care and government. Also participating but less so will be enterprise applications, defense, education, law enforcement, and non-government organizations.
Key use cases that are likely to drive biometrics revenue over the next decade include consumer device authentication, mobile banking, automated teller machines, government IT systems, point-of-sale transactions, pharmacy dispensing, and wearable device authentication. Biometric modalities that are likely to generate the most revenue include fingerprint, iris image, and voice recognition.
Tractica’s report, “Biometrics Market Forecasts,” is based on a detailed 10-year market forecast for biometrics hardware and software during the period from 2015 through 2024.
SALTO release new access control products
SALTO has unveiled a new range of access control products and technologies. Consisting of both hardware and software, the new range builds on SALTO design and manufacture of wire-free and wireless access control systems used in more than 90 countries by 14 million plus users daily.
New JustIN technology brings flexibility to access control enabling the use of smartphones as a part of your access control solution. Using SALTO’s internally developed JustIN apps, the Mobile Key app allows users to use their Bluetooth low energy-enabled smartphone to securely receive their keys online, anytime and anywhere, and then access doors directly with their phone. An alternative solution is JustIN mSVN (mobile SALTO Virtual Network) that permits extending or changing access rights instantly and remotely Over The Air (OTA) using SALTO’s mSVN app for NFC- enabled phones.
SALTO’s new software product — ProAccess SPACE — is designed to build on the established SALTO ProAccess and HAMS software family, and is web-based software with a SQL database engine embedded inside. SPACE’s modular design has customer-specific activation codes at its center, letting users choose and pay for just the features and functions they need.
Joining these products is our new range of wall readers and control units, both of which work with ProAccess SPACE. SALTO’s new wall reader follows the design aesthetic of the company’s latest products, and is another member of the XS4 2.0 product range and the new CU4000 control unit provides users with the ability to control up to 10 doors with just a single IP point.
Gemalto unveils ePassport inlays
Gemalto announced the launch of Sealys Premium inlays and eCovers for electronic passports, a new solution that delivers more flexibility in their bookbinding operations, as well as enhanced aesthetic qualities.
Sealys Premium inlays and eCovers will enable national printers to become more efficient with their manufacturing processes while creating ePassports that are thinner, flatter and more visually appealing. The new inlays and eCovers passed and exceeded ICAO durability tests.
Gemalto’s ultra-thin Sealys Premium inlays and eCovers are marrying the durability of a synthetic film to the thinness of paper. Booklets that fold and lie completely flat can therefore be manufactured with the highest possible standards of productivity. In addition, the new inlay is more resistant to delamination, a classic means of attack by those seeking to remove or tamper with the microprocessor.
Swivel Secure launches another mobile authentication app
Swivel Secure has supplemented its range of deployment options with the launch of OneTouch, a new rapid authentication mobile app.
OneTouch enables businesses to leverage the adoption of personal mobile devices in the workplace to deliver a digitally optimized two-factor authentication experience designed for industries where fast access to business critical data is essential.
The process of authenticating via OneTouch is up to 10 seconds faster than conventional token-based or SMS methods, making it suited to time-sensitive environments commonly found in sectors like health care, law and retail. The application can be used to authenticate access to the full range of remote environments, including virtual private networks, web sites, corporate clouds, and virtual desktops.
Swivel’s OneTouch app is already deployed in a number of UK NHS trusts and global organizations, including a major European retailer.
The free-to-download mobile app is compatible with all mobile operating systems, including Windows. In addition, it can be integrated with any existing Swivel deployment, offering end-user organizations even more choice when it comes to their security.
