Australia’s Commonwealth Bank has announced it will install contactless payment stations at the upcoming Royal Easter Show in Sydney, according to insideretailing.com.au.
The merchants’ stations will accept MasterCard Paypass credit and debit card purchases for up to $100.
This will be one of the first mass trials of contactless payment in Australia, enabling tens of thousands of attendees to try out the new form of payment, says Inside Retailing.
To date, Commonwealth Bank has issued three million contactless PayPass cards to Australian customers, all of which will be usable at the Royal Easter Show.
Australian retailers who are already accepting contactless payment include select IGA supermarkets, Red Rooster, Etihad Stadium in Melbourne and numerous other independent retailers.
