MasterCard and Central Catering Services have announced the successful deployment of contactless wristbands at the Isle of Wight Festival last weekend.
Launched for the first time in the UK, the PayPass-enabled wristbands allowed festival goers in the VIP area to make contactless purchases at Central Catering’s bar and Jamie Oliver’s ‘Fabulous Feast’ restaurant.
The wristbands came with £30 of preloaded credit, which the customers could use by simply tapping their wrist against a contactless reader.
According to MasterCard, an overwhelming majority of festival goers rated the wristbands as a “must-have,” with 96% saying they were quicker to use than credit cards, 98% saying they were easier, and 100% saying they would use them again at future festivals, concerts and sporting events.
In addition to the deployment of the PayPass prepaid wristbands, MasterCard also put terminals in some public areas to speed up card payments and integrated them with the main gate for access control.
MasterCard says they plan to roll out more PayPass prepaid wristbands at festivals and events across the UK.
