Cross Match Technologies, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., announced the acquisition of Canada-based Labcal. Both companies are privately held and terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Labcal specializes in ruggedized, handheld mobile computing systems that integrate biometrics, smart card technologies, wireless communications and application software for authenticating people and documents. Cross Match provides fingerprint scanner to a number of government programs, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s US VISIT.
Labcal’s Be.U Mobile deice was designed to meet U.S. Department of Defense military specifications for harsh environmental conditions. The Be.U Mobile is a handheld fingerprint and smart card reader that supports multiple biometric algorithms. It has been deployed in civil and military identification programs around the world. The device also meets a number of international smart card standards, including ICAO standards for reading and authenticating electronic passports.
