DOD to create new biometrics agency

In response to the growing role of biometrics with national security and military operations, the U.S. Department of Defense will create an agency designed to handle integration and synchronization of the new technologies into operations, according to an ExecutiveGov article.
The agency, called Biometrics Identity Management Agency, will also be tasked with managing the the agency’s biometrics database.
Past DOD documents have stipulated that biometric technology is to be completely integrated into regular operations of the agency in an effort to better support the military. Due to this and that technology has grown to the point that, in a two minute span, a soldier in Afghanistan can collect an individual’s biometric data and have a response on the data from the U.S., the new agency under the DoD will serve many purposes.
