Gemalto has acquired a controlling interest in Plastikkart Akıllı Kart İletişim Sistemleri Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Plastkart), a Turkish-based producer of smart cards and provider of personalization services.
Plastkart is listed on the Istanbul Stock Exchange, so according to local regulations, Gemalto will apply to the Turkish Capital Market Board in order to fulfill its obligation to make a public offer for the shares it does not already own.
Gemalto and Plastkart have been technology partners since 2003. After the integration of the two entities, their working relationship is not expected to change. Plastkart will continue to focus on the Turkish market, where banks are quickly implementing dual interface contactless cards.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
