Ghana worker biometrics could solve ghost name problem

Ghana’s major electronic clearing and payment system could provide enough space and communication capabilities to enable adding new purposes for removing ghost payrollers, according to a Peace FM Online article.
The system, called E-Zwich, was designed to connect all the banks and financial institutions in Ghana enabling the issuance of biometric smart cards for the citizens to use in financial transactions. But the system was over developed to the point that it could also be used for biometric registration of government employees and other purposes.
The government is using the biometric registration of public sector employees to remove the ghost names and repeat names that are on payroll systems. Instead of registering all of the employees individually, they will be required to enroll the E-Zwich card.
